Week 7 Updates: Midterm Exam

Image
Proposal Abstract For the midterm, I had a lot of plans that I wasn't exactly able to figure out how to articulate yet. I talked about my plan in my last post, which was to create a scene of a pond, with a frog-faced sphere shape hopping across four lily pads in the water.  Production Log My general ideas/plans going into the project were: - Use the NURBS primitive cylinder shape to create the 4 lily pads, make them flat and position them so that they look like they're sitting on top the water. Spread them out across the pond but make them close enough for the frog to hop between them.  - Make a NURBS primitive plane and make it a light blue color. Add a phong texture and adjust the setting to make it look more like water. Ex. Play around with the specular's shading and color to make it look as though the sun is reflecting off of the water. - Use a NURBS primitive sphere shape for the frog, make it small enough to fit on the lily pads. Then, follow the instructions from the...

Week 6 Updates: Exercise + Starting Mid-term

Image
This past week, I started working on a scene for class 6's exercise, which will also eventually turn into my midterm. I used the bouncing ball tutorial as well as the fruit bowl tutorial to help me accomplish some of the things I wanted to do. For example, I went back to the tutorials to help me add a spotlight to focus only on the objects in the scene, and also used them to help me assign different colors and texture to different objects. The scene is essentially just a pond with 4 lily pads scattered throughout it as of right now, but the end goal is to add a shape that resembles a frog and have the frog hop across each lily pad, and end with it hopping off the screen. I've just been working on setting up the scene, positioning the spotlight correctly, and playing around with the shading so far. I still need to figure out how to attach a photo of a frog to the black sphere in the picture below, like we did in the bouncing ball tutorial. I followed the exact same steps from th...

Week 5 Updates: Tutorial Complete!

Image
This week, I finished Chapter 3 of the tutorial and went back to Chapter 2 to fix the issue with my squash and stretch (explained last week). Unlike Chapters 1 & 2, I didn't really run into any issues while going through Chapter 3 of the tutorial, likely because I am finally getting used to working with Maya. Once I finished Chapter 3, I quickly went back to the squash & stretch step from Chapter 2 to redo it, and got it to work again. The final product is shown below, with the ball shown in both the squashed and stretched state: Now that I'm done with this, I've started on the 5th assignment using curves and surfaces, but I don't have many updates to share yet. I will be working on it throughout today and tomorrow but probably won't post anything on it until the end of this week (hopefully will be done with it by then!)
